I can’t believe it’s been so long since I last posted anything here. The biggest reason is a little bug I caught – the Reading Bug! Yes, it’s Summer Reading time again, and it’s been keeping me pretty busy. Our state is a member of the Collaborative Summer Reading Program and this summer our theme is “Catch the Reading Bug.” I spent most of May getting my department ready for Summer Reading – visiting area schools, purchasing supplies, etc. Then we kicked off the program on June 11 with a visit from Party Pets - a huge success. The children’s area was filled to capacity with around 70 kids watching Mr. Greg put on a show with his small animals (snakes, lizards, a rabbit, a ferret, and more). Their favorite part of the show was taking turns with one of the snakes wrapped around their waists like a belt.
Now that we’re in the full swing of Summer Reading things are running smoothly. Sign ups have been steady and some kids have even come back to the library to pick up their incentives already.
I’m really hoping to have more posts up soon. I definitely have a few things to blog about that I’ve missed over the last month or so!
